Family crest engraving otherwise known of as heraldry engraving or family coat of arms.
For as many years as I can remember, in conection with my day to day occupation of handmaking
jewellery, I have been repeatedly asked if I can engrave family crests, and undertake seal engraving.
Until recently, this work was only undertaken by a minority of the most highly skilled craftsmen, and women,
all of whom would specialise in just one subject "ENGRAVING" most of whom would buy in their signet
rings etc. to engrave from a supplier such as myself, as very few of them are manufacturers.
Time and technology have moved on, with the introduction of laser engraving, in the hands of an
experienced technition, these engravings can now be done in a fraction of the time, at a fraction of the
cost, especially when undertaken in bulk.
Mass production still plays a part where by, if for instance you have many members of the same family
wanting the same crest engraved into various objects, though setting up the first one might cost £135.00
subsiquent objects may be £35.00 less, and as much as 50% off for bulk orders of 10 or more.
Purely as a rough guide, an average crest engraving into a gents signet ring by laser costs in the
region of £135.00 similar engraving done by hand, through your local jewellery shop could be £295.00
A simple three initial entwined engraving by by laser approximately £45.00 similar for hand engraving
Or a prancing lion crest by laser in region of £75.00 but by hand engraving in region of 145.00 or more.
